DEIMOS-1 5th Anniversary
A brief history full of success
- 2009: July 29th, DEIMOS-1 was launched and the newcomer ELECNOR DEIMOS Imaging began operating it from Boecillo, Valladolid, Spain.
- 2010: DEIMOS-1 provided data for ESA TropForest project, supporting the JRC TREES-3 and FAO UN-REDD initiatives.
- 2011: DEIMOS-1 became the main data provider for the USDA in-season crop monitoring of the US, complemented by its twin satellite DMCii's UK-DMC2. This project is still on-going, and in its four years so far has provided an unprecedented 600 million square kilometers of 20 meters multispectral imagery to USDA.
- 2012: DEIMOS-1 became the sole satellite providing the African dataset for GMES (now Copernicus) Data Wharehouse for ESA, and started its contribution to the Spanish National Remote Sensing Plan (PNT), which is still on-going.
- 2013: DEIMOS-1, again in cooperation with UK-DMC2, started an unprecedented service of high-frequency monitoring for precision agriculture, providing one coverage every two days of large regions in the US, across the whole crop season. In September, ELECNOR DEIMOS Imaging was awarded as Best Newcomer Satellite Operator in the Euroconsult Earth Observation Summit held in Paris.
- 2014: Five years after launch, DEIMOS-1 is one of world main data providers for vegetation and resource monitoring projects all around the world, with a still unmatched capacity of frequent monitoring over large areas. The last assessment of the status of the satellite predicts a mission lifetime of at least 10 years.
Now it is time to reach 2019 with the same dedicated service level!
Congratulations to everyone that makes it possible!
